Photos For College Magazine

I will be using this as the logo which will be in the top right or left hand corner of my front cover.
I could use one of these two photos as my back ground of my front cover and/or my contents page.

I would zoom in on this photo and possibly use it as my main image and use the photo below as my background for the front cover or contents i'm not sure yet.

This a possible backgrounds i just need to decide which one i will use.
This photo would be my main image on the front cover of my magazine or i would use it in my contents page.

Price Of Magazine

The college magazine would be published once a month and wouldn’t cost a penny, it would be made by students in the college so wouldn’t need to cost anything and maybe if it did cost something not as many students would read it. Also they might not be able to afford much with them been at college and not full time employment.

Target Audience

The demographics for my magazine will fall into the age group of 15-24 because they’re students at college; they will fall into group E in the S.E.G because they’re not in full time employment. In the psychographics, in the value life styles they will be the groups who are outer-directed, the people who belong, the achievers and emulators. If you look at Maslow’s hierarchy of needs you will see that the students fall into the category of social, because they need to belong and be a part of a group, or the esteem because they will have self-esteem, status, respect and admiration of others.

Market Research

This magazine is for the Grimsby institute of further and higher education. The master head ‘gx magazine’ is effective because it could stand for the Grimsby extra magazine. There are two main images of a boy and girl both in dark grey and white. They are not images of people they’re like cartoons or just the outline of a person with no particular features. It includes the website for people to access and a few slogans on the front from inside the magazine to catch your eye and want to read them. It’s quite a bright coloured magazine with blue and grey as the main two colours of the magazine. It would be for students attending the college to read and for year 11’s wanting to go to the college next year. The contents page I think should be similar colours to the front page whereas this contents page is a bit too much with a lot of photos on. Also with a lot of information. It is good because it has the slogan from the pages in the magazine in the contents page but, then it tells you what it’s actually about underneath.

Market Research

This magazine is a college magazine for East Riding College. It’s quite dull and dark and the main image is of a group of people facing the opposite way to the camera looking at trees. The name of the magazine is ‘student life’; it’s quite a basic obvious name because we know that it’s for students about their life in college. The main image is also part of a story about a trip that media students went on and has a caption saying ‘media students in berlin see page 12’ so that if you’re interested in reading more you know where to go. The magazine is produced by the college and wouldn’t cost anything as it’s aimed at the students and a pupil at school wanting to come to college to see what ‘student life’ is about. The contents page is very different from the front cover as it is very bright and has photos of students from the college. A problem with the contents page is that you should have captions under the photos so that you know where to go to see these specific things.

The magazine is called ‘Gecko’ and is a college magazine for Sheffield College. Around the title of the magazine is a shadow of half of a lizard it isn’t the main image it’s an image in the background with lots of little images on top. Lizards are the theme of this magazine as it has lizards on the front cover and contents page. The production company for this magazine is an English teacher that works at the college. It is for the students of the college to get published in the magazine ‘to entertain, inform, offer opinion, generate debate, review and evaluate.’
The magazine is for students in the college to enjoy online and for people that don’t to the college to see what it is like and how the students get involved with it. The college is represented as a good, happy place and the students seem happy in the photos, it is a good place to be.

Identify and explain choice of College to feature in your Preliminary task

I have decided on the choice of college that I will be using for my preliminary task and that is Wyke Sixth Form College. I am using this college because it is the college that I am currently going to and feel that I know a lot about the college to write about in my magazine. It will be for current year 11s that are looking at colleges in hull and to show them that Wyke college is the place to be where, you can succeed and also have a good social life.

• I will use thumbnail images that illustrate other articles in the magazine

I – Who is the college magazine for?

• The magazine will be published by Wyke Sixth Form College and will be read by Wyke students and teachers.

I- What messages will your magazine convey about my chosen college?

• The college magazine will be about the students in the college. It will show the public and pupils wanting to come to the college that we’re hard working and achieve A*-C grades. It will include pictures of the college and show you the new buildings. Also that you meet new people and get to attend college parties in all seasons organised by the colleges own Student Executive.

A- The Target Audience

• My target audience will be pupils in year 10 and 11 at school looking to get an idea of the colleges and lessons available at Wyke. It will also be for students already at college if they’re thinking of moving to Wyke.

R- How will the target audience and college be represented?

• The college will be represented in a positive way because it is a happy, enjoyable place to be and the lessons are fun and you can succeed. The target audience will not be stereotyped they will be anyone from schools in the area looking to go to college.
